Pan American Expedition | part 1

Mexico City – Panama City

Tropical wildlife, ancient ruins and endless coastlines… welcome to the lush heart of Central America! Leg 1 takes us from the high-altitude buzz of Mexico City all the way to vibrant Panama City, crossing seven countries and an impressive range of landscapes, cultures and ecosystems.

There’s diversity in scenery, history, wildlife, and adventure. You’ll travel through dense rainforests, past volcanoes and turquoise waters, dive into rich indigenous cultures and soak up sunshine on white-sand beaches.

Highlights

Expect highlights like:

  • Snorkeling and diving with whale sharks, manta rays, and colorful tropical fish in some of the largest coral reefs in the world.
  • A visit to the Mayan ruins of Copán and the Aztec city of Tikal, hidden deep in the jungle.
  • The wildlife of Central America’s rainforests: think howler monkeys, toucans, and wild parrots.
  • Hikes through green highlands, boat trips to tropical islands, and a stop at a working coffee plantation.
  • Down time on the Caribbean coast, with crystal-clear water and that postcard-perfect white sand.
  • And of course: a visit to the Panama Canal, one of the greatest engineering feats in history.

Once again, this expedition offers plenty of variety: challenging roads, active days, fascinating cultural visits, and opportunities to enjoy the sun and sea.

We finish this leg in Panama City, at the edge of the Darien Gap: a wild, impassable jungle region that interrupts the Pan American Highway. It’s the only break in the road between Mexico and Patagonia. After this, it’s time to prepare for the next chapter. We’ll ship the 4×4’s across the gap, so you’re all set for Leg 2 on the South American continent.
