Madagascar Expedition
Join a small-group 4×4 expedition through Madagascar’s wildest landscapes. See lemurs, baobabs, and wildlife found nowhere else, navigate remote tracks, and experience the island on your terms. Comfortable camps, hotels, and local support ensure the adventure is challenging, but worry-free. That’s our Madagascar expedition in a nutshell.
21 days of 4x4 adventure
through the heart of one of the world's most unique islands
Madagascar is unlike anywhere else. Isolated for millions of years, it’s home to landscapes, wildlife and cultures you won’t find anywhere else on earth. In 2026 we’re launching a completely new 21-day car expedition through the island’s east and remote south, far beyond the usual tourist routes.
Expect rainforest tracks, small ferries, coastal roads along the Indian Ocean, deserts and highlands, remote villages, wild beaches and national parks filled with endemic wildlife. This is Madagascar at its rawest and most authentic.
Madagascar feels like a world of its own. From rainforest to desert, from baobabs to lemurs, the scenery changes constantly. The south in particular is remote, sparsely populated and rarely visited: a place where nature and daily life still set the pace. If you’re looking for an expedition that feels truly different, this island delivers.
We travel through the island’s east and deep into the south, crossing rainforest, wetlands, open plains and coastal stretches. Small ferries, off-road tracks and quiet backroads are part of the journey. After the first days, much of the route becomes remote and off-road, taking us into areas few travelers ever reach.
Your vehicle, your comfort, our support
We travel exclusively with rental cars. So you can fully focus on the adventure! You’ll drive a Japanese 4×4 pickup truck, no more than three years old, specially equipped for self-sufficient travel. With high ground clearance, large tires, air conditioning, refrigerator, camping equipment, a rooftop tent for two people, and all the necessary tools and recovery gear, you’ll be ready for any terrain. Traveling with more than two people? No problem: extra ground tents are available.
We provide a comfortable and varied rhythm. You’ll stay in a mix of hotels, campsites, and wild camping spots, with about two-thirds of the nights spent in hotels. After a day full of adventure, there’s always a nice place to relax.
Along the way, you’ll be supported by the Overland Travel team, along with a local Malagasy cook and mechanic. They’ll assist with logistics, translations, vehicle support, and camp life. You travel independently, but with help close by when needed. All that’s left for you to do is: enjoy!
